| After the M5 opened in Halesowen, the A459 was downgraded to the B4551 (presumably to encourage motorway traffic to join at J3 instead of driving through Hunnington and Romsley to join at J4). There is virtually no trace of the fact that this road used to be the A459. But even the current B4551 isn't the exact route of the old A459; at Money Lane the A459 used to take a different route down an incredibly narrow lane (which included three TOTSOs) - and the original Money Lane was even narrower. This end of the road was reprofiled when a "new" Money Lane opened, linking the B4551 to the newly-re-routed A491. Here we take a look at what's left of the original A459 route. |
